It only takes a couple of minutes to drink a cup of tea or coffee, but those minutes can be a wonderful respite from the busyness of the day.
I love tea VERY MUCH (Side note: This is a massive understatement – I love it so much that my daughter offers it to me like some magical elixir of life when I’m sad, crying uncontrollably, annoyed, not feeling well… you get the idea) All too often though, I can’t even remember drinking my tea… I’ll be sipping while working and find an empty mug next to me without having actually tasted a drop. Or I’ll drink it on the go, forget where I put it a couple of times and then eventually forget about it altogether. But I’ve learned that the best cups of tea are the ones you drink mindfully.
Doing something mindfully simply means being completely present in that moment. It means gently bringing your mind back when it inevitably attempts to start down the path of pondering the future or the past.
When last did you take the time to sit down and enjoy that moment in time with your tea or coffee instead of letting it blur into the daily rush? When last did you inhale the amazing aroma of your hot, comforting drink instead of gulping it down so you can get to the next thing on your to-do list? When last did you sip it slowly and savour each one of those sips, or focus on the warmth of the mug in your hands without worrying about some nebulous future threat?
Grant yourself some mindful minutes every day to stop and really enjoy something – whether that’s tea, coffee or just the miracle of being alive.
Wishing you a few blissful moments each day where you can stop and just be with your coffee or tea.
