Considering current events and the fact that the New Year didn’t come flitting in like your fairy godmother to magic away all the problems you’re facing right now, it’s probably safe to say that you’re lacking some fun in your life.
Fun? FUN? Why would I bring up fun at a time like this? Because when you’re feeling overwhelmed or that all your burdens – big and small – are just getting far too heavy to carry with no clear end in sight, a little bit of fun can refresh you in a big way.
Enter Larry the Llama, our beloved imaginary pet with his own theme song. Don’t ask me what the words are because we forget them and have to re-invent them every time we want to sing it. It’s sung to the tune of the Spngebob Squarepants theme song and should be deeply inspiring and thought-provoking. I’ll start you off so you can get an idea of what I mean… “Whoooooo lives in a potato tree happy and free? Larry the Llama! Except how he’s not free, he’s stuck in a tree… Larry the Llama!
You see, Larry is a string of fairy lights draped over a potato bush in our garden who gives us endless pleasure as we gaze upon him at night and discuss what he might be getting up to. Larry changes shape and dims as he is slowly devoured by the fast-growing bush. But then he is reborn like a phoenix in a blaze of glory when the bush is trimmed and he is re-draped – never precisely the same as he was before. Oh, and if you noticed the discrepancy between him living in a potato TREE versus a potato BUSH, that’s what happens when your former garden service fails to trim said bush. Said bush then grows to the height of a baby giraffe and your garden service refuses to trim it at all because it has allegedly evolved into a new species – the potato TREE (pssst… there’s no such thing…) – and tree trimming is not part of their services. They don’t work here anymore…

So why tell you about Larry? Because he deserves his two minutes of fame and because life can be a lot more fun when you use your imagination and dare to be a little bit silly now and then. We need fun in our lives to release tension and feel happier, but when life gets tough it’s often the last thing on our list of priorities.
When last did you make up a silly song, dance unreservedly to something with a good beat or have conversations on behalf of your pets (real or imaginary) with distinct accents and personalities for each one? Fun is an essential part of life and not something you should leave behind with your childhood or neglect when things feel serious and overwhelming.
Wishing you the release and lifted spirits that come with prioritizing fun.
